The corresponding update was actually scheduled for yesterday (July 16), but instead some users received an empty patch of 4 GB or even 16 GB.

The developers have already rolled back this "patch" - it should not have any effect on the game - and they promised to remove the Denuvo system from Prey in the near future. A specific date was not named.

The PC version of Prey without Denuvo has actually been around for over a year. Edition for Xbox Game Pass delivered (the project disappeared from the service library in April) from "clean" executable.

At the same time, the Austrian mechanism in Prey was hacked by the Russian hacker BALDMAN back in May 2017 - after just 10 days after release. Since then, the project has been defenseless against pirates, but still weighed down by Denuvo.

Blogger the other day Overlord Gaming published a video demonstrating the negative effects of Denuvo on the performance of some games: in the case of Prey specifically, the system delayed the loading of the menu by 37 seconds (17 seconds versus 54).

Prey was released in May 2017 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. By unconfirmed information, Arkane Studios' sci-fi shooter is getting a VR edition in the future.
