The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation (Ministry of Communications), as reported by the Vedomosti newspaper, is developing the necessary regulatory framework for the introduction of eSIM technology in our country.
Let us remind you that the eSIM system requires the presence of a special identification chip in the device, which allows you to connect to any cellular operator that supports the appropriate technology without purchasing a SIM card.
As we reported earlier, Russian mobile operators are already looking at eSIM. The technology, among other things, will allow the formation of a new business model, since subscribers will not have to visit operator showrooms to connect to the network.
The Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications believes that the use of eSIM in Russia does not require changes to legislation. In order for a device with an eSIM to work in Russian cellular networks, a declaration of compliance of the device with the requirements for the use of communications equipment is sufficient.
However, it should be noted that not all smartphones support eSIM technology. Therefore, we can assume that the service will initially have limited distribution in our country.
