Blizzard Tests Experimental 3-2-1 Mode in Overwatch Labs

Section "Laboratory" is to test ideas from the Overwatch development team and collect player feedback. Not everything that Blizzard Entertainment is testing as part of it will be introduced into the main mode. So, in Overwatch it will be possible to try out a new restriction on the distribution of roles in a team: 1 tank, 3 damage players and 2 support fighters (now in the main modes - 2-2-2).

β€œIn November or December of last year, the following question was discussed with the team: how to reduce the waiting time for players to take damage? Jeff Kaplan explained the purpose of the idea. - As you know, with the introduction of the role restriction - and we believe that this decision was the right one and changed the situation in the game for the better - the waiting time for the game for those who prefer damage characters has increased. So, we started an internal experiment with the composition of teams, where not 2, but 3 damage players played on each side. It was fun. The opinions of our team members differed greatly. Some people liked the idea very much, while others strongly opposed it.”

Around this time, the Overwatch team announced The Lab. Therefore, it was decided to test the idea on the players and get feedback from the community. Primarily, Blizzard Entertainment intends to reduce the match latency for damage characters, but the developer also wants to look at the state of affairs in the battles themselves, when the tanks will be Roadhog alone or D.Va alone.

Overwatch is out on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. 3-2-1 mode will be available tomorrow.
