Action-adventure action RPG Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night at PAX East performed poorly on the Nintendo Switch. This was noted by many journalists present. The news spread among the fans, who expressed their indignation. Game creator Koji Igarashi reached out to backers on Kickstarter, where he explained that the project's performance will be improved by release.

In a Kickstarter post, Igarashi wrote that the Nintendo Switch demo of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night generated a lot of discussion. Part of the "brakes", according to him, was caused by overheating of the consoles.

“Because the consoles were stored inside closed containers, there was a significant overheating problem. This reduced the number of frames per second and made the game not run as smoothly as we wanted, ”Igarashi wrote. “The same build (as well as subsequent ones) is much more stable when the console does not overheat.”

Koji Igarashi explained that the Switch version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is still being optimized, which was also echoed by publisher 505 Games. It is now stated that at release the game will be played on a hybrid console in fixed resolution 720p at 30 fps in handheld mode and dynamic 720p at 30 fps in stationary mode. The latter will offer more advanced graphics and additional effects.
