BMW and Great Wall to build electric car factory in China

BMW and its partner, privately held Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor, have announced plans to build a plant in China with an annual output of 160 vehicles that will build BMW MINI brand electric vehicles and Great Wall Motor models.

The construction of the plant, worth 650 million euros, is expected to be completed in 2022. Earlier this month, Great Wall received regulatory approval to build a new plant. Great Wall is the largest SUV and pickup manufacturer in China.

The project will be run by a new joint venture, Spotlight Automotive, based in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, with a total staff of 3000.
