Big release of LanguageTool 5.0!

LanguageTool is a free system for checking grammar, style, spelling and punctuation. LanguageTool can be used as a desktop application, command line application, or as a LibreOffice/Apache OpenOffice extension. Requires Java 8+ from Oracle or Amazon Corretto 8+. Browser extensions created as part of a separate project Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Edge. And a separate extension for Google Docs.

In the new version:

  • Updated check modules for Russian, English, Ukrainian, French, German, Arabic, Catalan, Dutch, Esperanto, Slovak, Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Expanded integration with LibreOffice.
  • The LibreOffice extension (LT 4.8 and 5.0) provides the ability to connect to an external LT server. You can either use a local server or connect to a central server similar to browser extensions. But to ensure the standard operation of the extension, a connection to the server is not required. A connection can be used if the server has advanced functionality, such as rules using n-grams or word2vec. By default, the extension uses the built-in LanguageTool engine.
  • For LibreOffice 6.3+, the ability to customize various options for underlining errors has been implemented: wavy, bold, semi-bold, dotted underlining. You can select an underline color for each error category. By default, green and blue colors are used to highlight errors.

Changes for the Russian language module include:

  • Created 65 new and improved existing rules for checking punctuation and grammar (Java and xml).
  • Expanded and corrected the dictionary of parts of speech.
  • Added new words to the dictionary for spell checking.
  • The desktop version includes two variants of a spell checking dictionary. The main version of the dictionary does not distinguish between the letters "E" and "Yo", but in the additional one they are distinguished.
