British chart: Luigi's Mansion 3 is the fastest selling game on Switch this year, but didn't make it to the podium

UKIE and Gfk have published a chart of the best-selling games in the UK for the week ending 2 November. Luigi's Mansion 3 eclipsed The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Super Mario Maker 2, becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game of 2019 at retail stores. The chart only covers boxed editions, not digital.

Luigi's Mansion 3 managed to outperform other releases in part because the game was on sale for 24 hours longer. Nintendo released the Ghostbuster adventure on Halloween Thursday instead of the traditional Friday.

It is known that Luigi's Mansion 2 on Nintendo 3DS sold 5,5 million copies worldwide. Luigi's Mansion 3 reportedly launched 140% better than its predecessor. However, there is no hope that the game will remain the top seller among releases on Nintendo Switch this year. The hotly anticipated Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released mid-month.

Action-adventure Luigi's Mansion 3 was last week's best-selling new game, but it's in second place on the overall chart because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remained at the top by a fairly large margin. The shooter is doing very well, considering that sales in the second week fell by only 49%.

The second—and final—new game on last week's chart was Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and the Lion King. A set of two old favorites debuted in twelfth place. It sold best on the Nintendo Switch (48% of sales), followed by the PlayStation 4 version (38%) and finally the Xbox One (14%). It is worth clarifying that such games are often purchased in digital format, and the chart takes into account only sales of boxed copies.

The rest of the chart consists of familiar games. In third place is FIFA 20, which has now surpassed the mark of one million boxed editions sold. In fourth position is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The racing arcade continues to be the main choice of Nintendo Switch owners.

On the second, she sold better than on the first. In the third week of release, sales fell by only 21% - the game remained in seventh place.
