Wizards of the Coast has announced that former BioWare game designer James Ohlen will lead its studio in Austin, Texas. The as-yet unnamed development team will create a game based on a new intellectual property, not Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering.
βI didn't think I'd be back in the gaming industry so soon, but working with Wizards is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Our mutual love of role-playing games, world-building and interactive storytelling is a perfect match,β said Olen.
βWe are thrilled to have someone like James join the team at such a critical time in Wizards' evolution. James has experience in creative direction and studio management, which is important as we strive to create new experiences that will appeal to gamers everywhere,β added Wizards of the Coast President Chris Cocks.

VentureBeat journalists were able to extract a few more details from the President of Wizards of the Coast about why the studio will focus on the new franchise. βWe believe we have been uniquely successful because we have created sustainable franchises. "We want to continue to build the strength of these brands and develop new content and experiences that allow fans to experience them in many more ways," Cox responded. βAt the same time, itβs important to us that we also give our creators the opportunity to follow their passion. We are driven by innovation and creativity, just like James, so we look forward to the new worlds we can build together and share with our community.β
James Olen will begin working on the project this week.
