1911 New York footage turned into 4k/60p color video using neural networks

In 1911, the Swedish company Svenska Biografteatern made a video of a trip to New York, resulting in over eight minutes of video, which in its original form has a rather poor resolution and a low unstable frame rate.

Various attempts have been made over the years to improve resolution, frame rate, colors, and other details. The results vary, but one of the best to date is the work of Denis Shiryaev, who recently shared an improved video on Reddit and his YouTube channel.

According to the description of the video, as well as a comment left by Shiryaev on Reddit, four neural networks were involved in the project, including DeOldify NN (for colorization). In general, various neural networks managed to increase the frame rate to 60 per second, increase the resolution to 4K, increase the sharpness, and even carry out automatic colorization.

The result is much better than the original, however, the neural network clearly did not cope with automatic coloring. Overdubbed sounds allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the business capital of the United States more than 100 years ago. We already wrote about how Denis Shiryaev visually improved the famous short film by the Lumière brothers "Arrival of a train" in 1896. On his channel there are other interesting works, including the Apollo 16 lunar mission:
