Canalys analysts predict that global demand for smart speakers with intelligent voice assistant will continue to grow at a rapid pace.
It is reported that in 2018, the total number of smart speakers in the hands of users was approximately 114,0 million units. This year, this figure is expected to rise by 82,4% and reach 207,9 million units.
The United States will continue to be the largest market for smart speakers with a 42,2% share. In second place will be China with 28,8%.
In the coming years, the global smart speaker market is expected to further increase sales. So, in 2020, the number of smart speakers in the hands of users will reach approximately 300 million pieces, and in 2021 it will exceed 400 million. Moreover, as noted, in 2021, speakers with a voice assistant will become more popular than tablet computers.
We add that throughout the past year, a stubborn struggle for leadership in the smart speaker market was between Amazon and Google. As a result, Amazon took the first place in the list of leading suppliers with a share of 31,1%. At the same time, Google is only slightly behind: the IT giant controls 30,0% of the industry. Further in the ranking are the Chinese companies Alibaba, Xiaomi and Baidu.
