CentOS 8 will become CentOS Stream

In 2021, CentOS 8 will cease to exist as a separate enterprise rebuild distribution and will become CentOS Stream, which will be the "gateway" between Fedora and RHEL. That is, it will contain newer, relative to RHEL, packages. However, CVEs will be patched for RHEL first and then ported to CentOS, as they are now.

According to the maintainers, this does not mean that CentOS will become a beta of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It is expected to include more recent packages with fewer bugs. Binary exact compatibility with RHEL will be lost.

What it will give us or take away from us - time will tell. For binary compatibility with RHEL remains OL.
