The organizers of the upcoming IFA 2020 Consumer Electronics Show have announced new details about its holding against the backdrop of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Part of the in-person IFA 2020 events has been postponed to next year, but the exhibition will still take place

Today's announcement indicates that this time the IFA will be held without one of the key events - Global Markets, which has been held at the exhibition since 2016. The traditional goal of Global Markets is to bring together OEMs/ODMs, retailers and distributors. Over the past three years, IFA Global Markets has become Europe's largest platform for transactions between OEMs and ODMs.

The press release states that the IFA Global Markets event has been rescheduled for 2021 "despite high interest from the industry." As IFA organizers noted, the decision is due to the fact that for a number of participants, especially from Asian markets, traveling to Berlin during the pandemic is associated with a number of problems.

β€œ[Unrelenting] travel restrictions prevent Asian companies from joining the event in Berlin,” IFA chief executive Jens Heithecker said in a press release. β€” Under these conditions, many had to postpone their participation in IFA Global Markets until next year. Pan-Asian home and consumer electronics suppliers make up the bulk of IFA Global Markets exhibitors.”

The main part of the IFA 2020 exhibition will be held from 3 to 5 September.
