Many paid ChatGPT users have started setting the service as their browser homepage or otherwise speeding up access. This speaks to the service's significant importance, but Google previously dominated this segment.

In the US, 72% of paid ChatGPT users set the service as their homepage in a desktop or mobile browser instead of traditional search engines, according to a Bango survey of 1400 ChatGPT users in the US. 78% added the service widget to the home screen of their smartphone or tablet; 74% expressed a willingness to pay for goods directly within the ChatGPT interface; 72% said they were willing to reduce their use of other appsāmapping and Spotify are already available in ChatGPT; 75% said they wanted to integrate ChatGPT into their everyday tasks; 77% indicated they were willing to pay for ChatGPT in conjunction with other services; and 74% added that they were willing to pay for access to the chatbot through their mobile operator.
In other words, ChatGPT isn't just a service for quick answers or writing assistance. More and more people are discovering it first, and they're willing to spend a significant portion of their digital lives there; it's no longer just a service they use occasionally. People are abandoning the traditional mechanism of clicking links on Google and trusting artificial intelligence to generate answers to their questions. They're willing to pay for purchases here, as well as forgoing some of their usual services, which are available there in one form or anotherāit's easier to use a single service that offers everything, rather than a dozen separate ones. Interestingly, people are increasingly viewing ChatGPT as a kind of streaming serviceāthey're willing to pay for it as part of a bundle, including as part of their mobile phone contract.
It's too early to bury Google Search, because its AI still isn't perfect. The volume of traditional search queries remains enormous. If more and more people start their day with ChatGPT, this could eventually change the way search works for developers, advertisers, and site owners. It's no longer about who appears first in search results, but who appears first in the chatbot interface. And this success will need to be monetized.
