Maxillofacial surgery or not? That is the question
Dear friends, we have already discussed what are wisdom teethwhat happens if you don't touch themand how is the removal going.

Maxillofacial surgery or not? That is the question

Maxillofacial surgery or not? That is the question

It would seem that this is difficult?

But! Until now, patients come for a consultation and say that - “But in another clinic, the doctor said ...” They say that such wildly complex teeth can be removed outside the hospital, the department of maxillofacial surgery (maxillofacial surgery), and even without general anesthesia, it’s impossible . Kind of fraught with consequences.

Not only do the words “hospital” and “maxillofacial surgery” in many patients cause a feeling of fear on the verge of a panic attack, but after such statements it is extremely difficult to convince them otherwise.

Maxillofacial surgery or not? That is the question

After such intimidation, and I can’t call it another way, many really go to the hospital, collect tests, agree to intubation anesthesia and lie in the wards for several days, enjoying the local society, the attentive attitude of the nurses and nosocomial infection.

At the same time, to the question “How did you justify the need to extract a tooth exclusively in the CSF department?” I never got a clear answer.

The only thing they usually say is: "Well, they told me the tooth is complex ... it is deep ... next to the nerve ...". Yes, I can well imagine that all this is true, and there is a nerve there, and there is also a deep hole, but ... what is the fundamental difference in the technique of inpatient and outpatient removal?

Survey?

Well, a CT scan (3D volumetric image) can be done - anywhere.

For what?

And for the fact that orthopantomography (OPTG, panoramic or panoramic image of the teeth) is planar, which means that each part of the image is superimposed layer by layer. Therefore, it is impossible to consider the object of study, in particular, the area of the wisdom tooth located next to the mandibular nerve, in all planes, from a different angle or other projection. CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography), on the contrary, gives us such an opportunity.

Perhaps, in these MSFs of yours, there are specially trained doctors who have a method of non-contact tooth extraction? Which, without cuts and any effort, with the power of thought alone, will make 8ku dissolve?

Maxillofacial surgery or not? That is the question

Well, it doesn't either!

And I keep asking: “Apparently the tooth was quickly removed and nothing bothered?” Crap! Didn't even make it here.

The average time for the removal of lower impacted wisdom teeth (those that are completely under the gum) in such institutions, according to patients, is 2,5 hours. A couple of times I heard, just think about 4 (!) Hours. Don't you think this is overkill? During this time, you can perform a sinus lift on both sides, install 8 implants, order a lunch, and even have time to take a nap. To my statements like “in our clinic, the removal of such a tooth takes an average of 25-30 minutes, from anesthesia to the suture”, many, to put it mildly, look with surprise.

I think that you, having spent 4 hours in the dentist's chair, and even some professor, hung with regalia, are unlikely to believe that all this could have been done "a little" faster. And in a more friendly, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Without unnecessary risks and worries.

Maxillofacial surgery or not? That is the question

So why are people sent to the MSF hospital to have their wisdom teeth removed? Who does it?

But who:

- either the doctor does not know how / is afraid to remove such teeth and wants to play it safe by referring you to another specialist (which is most likely)

Or they want to swindle you for money.

Everything is clear with the first point. If you can't, give it to someone else. This is right.

But where does the money and why "dissolve"? Because you are paying for services that, as we just found out, there is no need:

- the cost of a day spent in a hospital is about 4 thousand rubles. Depending on whether you have a single room, or you will hear the snoring of twenty more of the same "lucky people" with wisdom teeth for several nights.

But that's not all.

If you need general anesthesia, add to your money spent on the ward a consultation with an anesthesiologist-resuscitator (about 1,5 thousand rubles), the necessary laboratory examination (on average, 3 thousand rubles), and the general anesthesia procedure itself. At least two hours, but sometimes more. And it can cost you from 8 to 30 thousand rubles.

But the surgery itself is worth something, right? As a rule, the removal of an impacted tooth costs from 14 to 23 thousand rubles. We can assume that in a good hospital the cost of removal will be comparable (not counting the ward, anesthesia, tests, consultations and anesthesia).

Feel the difference? Well, isn't it a divorce? They scare you, then they shake your money. Big money.

Why did I even write all this?

I want to tell you, dear friends, that practically there are no such wisdom teeth that could not be removed outside the hospital, at a regular outpatient appointment. Having spent, at most, forty minutes for a consultation, examination and the operation itself, you will solve the problem once and for all. In the shortest possible time, you will be back in the ranks, you will be able to go about your business, almost without getting out of your usual way of life. No need to take sick leave and hire a nurse. Live a normal life, but with little post-op advice, appointments, and check-ups.

Thank you for your attention. I will be glad to answer your questions in the comments!

Sincerely, Andrey Dashkov
