Snapdragon 865 chip may come in two versions: with and without 5G support

WinFuture site editor Roland Quandt, known for his reliable leaks, has released a new piece of information about Qualcomm's future flagship processor for mobile devices.

Snapdragon 865 chip may come in two versions: with and without 5G support

We are talking about a chip with the engineering designation SM8250. This product is expected to debut in the commercial market under the name Snapdragon 865, replacing the current top-end Snapdragon 855 platform.

It was previously said that the new processor is codenamed Kona. Now Roland Quandt has received information about a certain Kona55 Fusion platform. β€œLooks like an SM8250 and an external 5G modem. Not built-in,” writes the editor of WinFuture.

Thus, observers believe that the Snapdragon 865 processor may come in two versions. The Kona modification will be equipped with an integrated 5G module, and the Kona55 Fusion variant will combine the base chip and an external Snapdragon X55 5G modem.

Thus, suppliers of flagship smartphones, depending on the region of sale of their devices, will be able to use either the Snapdragon 865 platform with built-in 5G support, or a less expensive version of the product with optional 5G support due to an additional modem.

Previously also ΡΠΎΠΎΠ±Ρ‰Π°Π»ΠΎΡΡŒthat the Snapdragon 865 solution will allow the use of LPDDR5 RAM, which will provide data transfer speeds of up to 6400 Mbps. The announcement of the chip is expected at the end of this year.
