Chipmaker NXP invests in Chinese autonomous driving technology developer Hawkeye

Eindhoven, Netherlands-based semiconductor supplier NXP Semiconductors said Wednesday it has invested in Chinese self-driving car technology company Hawkeye Technology Co Ltd. This will allow NXP to expand its presence in the automotive radar market in China.

NXP also announced in a statement that it has signed a cooperation agreement with a Chinese firm that will give it access to Hawkeye's 77GHz automotive radar technologies. These technologies improve the safety of autonomous driving by being able to identify potential emergencies while the vehicle is in motion. As part of the agreement, NXP specialists will work together with a team of Hawkeye engineers and employees of the laboratory complex at Southeast University in Nanjing (China).

The company chose not to disclose the financial details of the agreement.
