The number of GLONASS ground stations in Russia and abroad will double

The total number of navigation ground stations of the GLONASS system after 2020 will more than double. This, according to TASS, is stated in the presentation shown by Yury Urlichich, First Deputy General Director for the development of the orbital constellation and promising projects of Roscosmos, at the International Navigation Forum.

The number of GLONASS ground stations in Russia and abroad will double

Currently, 19 GLONASS stations operate in our country. Another six such points are located abroad.

After 2020, as noted, the number of Russian GLONASS stations will increase to 45, foreign - up to 12. Thus, their total number will reach 57 against 25 at present.

The new stations will be included in the GLONASS differential correction and monitoring system. Thanks to this system, information is provided on the integrity of the navigation field, data on the exact coordinates of satellites and time-frequency parameters are corrected.

It is assumed that the deployment of new GLONASS ground stations will improve the accuracy of the Russian navigation system. In addition, the reliability of navigation services will improve.

Note that now the GLONASS constellation includes 26 spacecraft. Of these, 24 satellites are used for their intended purpose, one more is in orbital reserve and at the stage of flight tests.
