Chrome will become less "gluttonous" in terms of battery

Thanks to the open source Chromium Microsoft provided its first major and positive impact on the Google Chrome browser. It is reported that the new feature should solve a long-standing problem of "Chrome". We are talking about his "gluttony" in relation to the laptop battery.

Chrome will become less "gluttonous" in terms of battery

According to Microsoft's Shawn Pickett, media content is cached to disk during download and playback. And this increases energy consumption in general. It is assumed that the rejection of caching will reduce the power consumption of Windows laptops and tablets. Considering that video and music online are now in great demand, such an innovation should seriously help reduce the load on the battery.

As noted, Microsoft at one time experimented with optimizations for the classic Microsoft Edge browser. And it worked, because the web browser was really good in terms of power consumption. Now these features will appear in Chrome, as well as in other browsers based on it.

So far, the new feature is being tested in Chrome Canary 78. To activate it, you need to go to the chrome://flags list of flags, find the Turn off caching of streaming media to disk flag there and disable it, then restart the browser. This works for Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS and Android versions.

It has not yet been announced when the innovation will hit the release, however, most likely, this will happen soon.
