A major update to the Reaper 6 digital workstation is being developed by Cockos, a one-man company at the moment. The previous release was notable for building the program for Linux, and the new release continues to explore the market for Linux-based platforms. Assemblies are supplied in tarballs, accompanied by installation scripts, and do not depend on a distribution-specific package format. Installation images are prepared for amd64, i386, armv7l and aarch64 platforms. Of the dependencies, libc6, libstdc++, libgdk-3 and ALSA are required.
The most important innovations of Reaper 6:
- Possibility to embed GUI of some plugins in track panel or mixer.
- New mechanism for working with MIDI CC - now they are not processed as discrete events, but have received support for smooth lines, Bezier curves and many other functionalities.
- Auto Stretch Support and adjusting audio loops to project tempo for complex tempo changes.
- Node connection editor, which allows you to visually work with complex routing of audio streams.
- New topic with improved support for high-resolution screens, as well as the ability to flexibly customize almost every element of the user interface. To simplify customization, a special setup wizard is provided.
- Numerous optimizations, especially when working with large (from 200 tracks) projects.
- And much more.
Reaper 6 is priced at $60 for non-commercial and small business use and $225 for commercial use.
