Codemasters will hold a series of races in F1 2019 with combat pilots "Formula 1" instead of canceled stages

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Formula 1 management has canceled seven starting stages of the 2020 season. Thus, fans of the “Queen of Motorsport” were left without racing until at least June, but Codemasters unexpectedly came to the rescue.

The British studio, together with the esports organization Gfinity, announced F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix - a series of races in F1 2019 with the participation of Formula 1 combat pilots. The names of the athletes and invited "stars" have not yet been disclosed.

In F1 2019, there are no tracks in Vietnam and the Netherlands, where, among other things, the races of the 2020 season were supposed to take place, so instead of such Grand Prix, alternative ones will be arranged. The dates of the races will correspond to the dates of the canceled stages.

The first virtual race will be the Bahrain Grand Prix, which will be held on March 22 at 23:00 Moscow time. Drivers will cover 50% of the total distance (28 laps). Starting positions will be determined through a qualifying session.

To preserve the spirit of the competition, the organizers will allow athletes unfamiliar with the game to activate the traction control and anti-lock systems, and the races themselves will be made as fair as possible: with the same car settings and their efficiency for all.

The initiative is intended solely for entertainment purposes, so the points earned in virtual races will not affect the state of affairs in the real championship. You can follow the competition on the official F1 channels: YouTube, Twitch и Facebook.

Of the seven starting stages of the 2020 season, two will definitely not take place: the Australian Grand Prix and the Monaco Grand Prix (for the first time in 65 years). The next race still scheduled is the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in early June.
