Israeli company Corsight AI received a $5 million investment from Awz Ventures, a Canadian fund specializing in intelligence and security technologies. The company has developed technology to recognize faces hidden behind medical and other masks, as well as sunglasses and plastic shields - very relevant developments in the current environment, when masks make it difficult for tracking systems to work.
According to Reuters, Corsight said it will use the proceeds to promote its own intelligent platform and continue to develop advanced facial recognition technologies. Corsight was founded in late 2019 in Tel Aviv and has 15 employees. It is a subsidiary of the Cortica Group, which has raised over $70 million to develop artificial intelligence technologies.
Corsight noted that it offers a face recognition system capable of processing information received from various video cameras. It can address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 outbreak, which saw a significant portion of the population move around the streets with their faces partially covered.
Corsight said the technology could be used to alert people who violate quarantine rules and go outside in public places while wearing masks. The developers claim that if a person has COVID-19, the system will be able to quickly create a report on the people who were close to the patient.
Corsight says there are permanent surveillance systems at European airports and hospitals, Asian cities, South American police departments and border crossings, and African mines and banks where their technology can be applied.
