Comparison of Kirin 820 5G and Snapdragon 765G shows the superiority of the Huawei chip

At the end of March, Huawei presented a new mid-range single-chip system with 5G support - Kirin 820, which formed the basis of the new Honor 30S. Before its launch it became clearthat in terms of performance it will bypass the Snapdragon 765G. But let's take a closer look at the differences.

Comparison of Kirin 820 5G and Snapdragon 765G shows the superiority of the Huawei chip

Kirin 820 5G is a 7nm chip with a powerful Cortex-A76 @2,36GHz main core, three performance Cortex-A76 @2,22GHz cores, and four energy efficient Cortex-A55 @1,84GHz cores. The CPU block in the 7nm Snapdragon 765G is similar, although the core distribution is different: powerful Kryo 475 Prime (Cortex-A76) @2,4GHz, Kryo 475 Gold (Cortex-A76) @2,2GHz, and six power efficient cores Kryo 475 Silver (Cortex-A55) @1,8 GHz.

From this distribution, it is immediately clear that the Kirin 820 5G is the more powerful processor, as it has four Cortex-A76 cores, while the Snapdragon 765G has only two. This is also confirmed by Geekbench tests. As you can see, the Kirin 820 5G scores in Honor 30S are significantly higher (634 points in single-core and 2424 points in multi-core modes) than Snapdragon 765G in Redmi K30 5G (598 and 1772 points respectively):

AnTuTu testing shows a similar picture, with the Kirin 820 5G scoring 130 in this test suite, and the Snapdragon 080G scoring 765:

Let's move on to the graphic part. The Kirin 820 5G uses a 6-core ARM Mali-G57 accelerator, while the Snapdragon 765G uses its own Qualcomm Adreno 620 graphics. According to the AnTuTu test result already given, the Mali-G57 is a more powerful GPU and scores 116 points in the GPU test against 516 92 points for Adreno 536.

In another AnTuTu test, the Kirin 820 5G chip scored 119 points (in GPU mode), which is higher than the 839 points scored by Snapdragon 93G based OPPO Reno977 Pro.

In the above performance tests, Honor 30S (Kirin 820 5G) significantly outperforms OPPO Reno3 Pro 5G (Snapdragon 765G) not only in the area of GPU and CPU, but also in other areas. Yes, the AnTuTu version numbers do not match, but this is not significant: the Kirin 820 5G would clearly demonstrate its superiority in other conditions.

In terms of connectivity, both processors support 5G networks with SA and NSA architectures. The Snapdragon 765G supports Bluetooth 5.0, while the Kirin 820 5G supports Bluetooth 5.1. In terms of positioning systems, Kirin 820 5G does not support Indian NavIC, unlike Snapdragon 765G. All in all, the Kirin 820 5G is one of the most powerful processors Huawei has ever made, and no mid-range Qualcomm chip can stand up to it. However, the American chip designer is unlikely to leave things as they are and this year will certainly introduce a new mid-range chip that will be surpassed by the Kirin 820 5G.
