CD Projekt RED has confirmed that its upcoming sci-fi action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will likely not be coming to Nintendo Switch. In a wide-ranging interview with Gamespot, Krakow studio head John Mamais said that while the team didn't initially even consider the possibility of moving on Switch, but then made it happen, it's still very unlikely that the upcoming action RPG will also be released on this hybrid system.
“Who would have thought that a game like The Witcher 3 would be possible on Switch. So who knows? - he noted. “I think we'll consider bringing our next game to Switch.” Probably not."
Mamais also discussed his views on micropayments and the practice of releasing free DLC for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. "I think it's a bad idea to do micropayments after you release the game," he said. - It looks like it's very profitable. For a guy who runs a business, it's probably hard to decide whether we should go for it or not. But if everyone hates it, why would we do something like that and lose customer goodwill?”
“The Witcher 3's free DLC and large paid expansions were a good model for us; she did a very good job,” he added. “I don’t see why we wouldn’t try to replicate the same approach with Cyberpunk 2077. We’re not talking about it yet, but it seems like a smart way to go.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch on October 15, 2019, while Cyberpunk 2077 will release on April 16, 2020 on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
