RAM prices are up nearly 12% since the end of March

Memory production is automated to a certain extent, so self-isolation measures did not cause significant damage to it, but it is also impossible to talk about its complete absence. In the instant market, RAM prices have risen 11,9% since the end of March as the industry returns to life amid the pandemic.

RAM prices are up nearly 12% since the end of March

Chinese enterprises for the production of RAM chips began to increase production volumes, according to the agency Yonhap News. Demand for memory also remains strong enough that prices for 8Gb DDR4 chips in the spot market have increased by 11,9% since the end of March to $3,29. South Korean manufacturers such as Samsung and SK Hynix should increase their RAM shipments in the third quarter, so prices should fall in the second half of the year.

Even if the server segment shows a stable demand for memory throughout the year, the mobile device segment will inevitably decline. TrendForce experts, for example, expect the global smartphone market to contract by 16,5% in the second quarter compared to the same period last year, and the annual production of smartphones should fall by 11,3%. The fall will be the strongest in recent years, and the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting economic crisis should be blamed for this.
