The Chromium browser package offered in the Debian distribution has moved to use the default search engine DuckDuckGo instead of Google. A proposal to replace the search engine with DuckDuckGo has been under consideration since April 2020. User privacy is cited as a reason β DuckDuckGo does not use output personalization and cuts out data that can be used to track user preferences and movements. If necessary, you can return Google or select any other search engine in the settings ("Settings > Search Engine").
