Debian donates $10 to free video hosting Peertube

The Debian Project is pleased to announce a $10 donation to help Framasoft achieve the fourth goal of the crowdfunding campaign Peertube v3 - Live Streaming.

This year's annual Debian Conference DebConf20 was held online, and with a resounding success, it made clear to the project that we needed to have a permanent streaming infrastructure for small events hosted by local Debian groups. Thus, Peertube, the FLOSS video hosting platform, seems like the perfect solution for us.

We hope that this unconventional gesture by the Debian Project will help us make this a less terrible year and give us, and therefore humanity, the best free software toolkit to get closer to the future.

Debian thanks the many Debian sponsors and DebConf sponsors, especially those who have contributed to the success of DebConf20 on the web (volunteers, speakers and sponsors). Our project also thanks Framasoft and the PeerTube community for developing PeerTube as a free decentralized video platform.

The Framasoft Association cordially thanks the Debian Project for its own contributions to PeerTube.

This contribution has a double meaning. First, it is a clear recognition from an international project - one of the pillars of the free software world - a small French association that offers tools to free users from the clutches of the Internet's giant monopolies. Secondly, it is an essential help in these difficult times, supporting the development of a tool that is equally owned and useful to all.

The strength of this gesture on Debian's part proves once again that solidarity, mutual aid and cooperation are the values that enable our communities to create the tools to help us strive towards Utopia.
