Debian Social - a platform for communication between the developers of the distribution

Developers Debian launched an environment for communication between project participants and sympathizers. The goal is to facilitate communication and content sharing between distribution developers.

Debian - an operating system consisting of free and open source software. Currently Debian GNU / Linux - one of the most popular and important distributions of GNU / Linux, in its primary form had a significant impact on the development of this type of OS as a whole. There is also a project based on another kernel: Debian GNU / Hurd. Debian can be used as an operating system for both servers and workstations.

Debian has the largest repository of packages - ready-to-use programs and libraries - among all distributions, and if not even by their number, then by the number of supported architectures: from ARM used in embedded devices, to the most popular x86-64 and PowerPC, and ending with IBM S/390 used in mainframes. Various tools have been developed to work with the repository, the most popular of which is the Advanced Packaging Tool (APT).

Debian has become the basis for a number of distributions. The most famous of them are Knoppix, Linux Mint, Maemo, SteamOS, TAILS, Ubuntu.

The name "Debian" is made up of the names of the project's founder, Ian Murdock, and his wife, Debra Lynn.

The program includes the following services:

In the future, it is planned to introduce a system messaging on Mattermost, based on the Matrix database, and the service sound file exchange on the basis of funkwhale.

It is worth noting that many of the solutions used are federated and support mutual integration. For example, through a Pleroma account, it is possible to receive notifications about new videos in Peertube or pictures in Pixelfed.

To create an account in the services, you must submit an application to salsa.debian.org, of course, if you have an account there. In the future, it is planned to organize authentication directly through salsa.debian.org using the protocol OAuth.
