Dell, HP, Microsoft and Intel oppose proposed tariffs on laptops and tablets

Dell, HP and Microsoft, which together account for 52% of sales of detachable keyboard laptops and tablets in the US, said the proposed tariffs would increase the cost of laptops in the country.

A joint statement posted online by the four companies said the move would harm consumers and the industry, and would not affect Chinese trade practices that the Trump administration's United States Trade Mission (USTR) is trying to correct.

The proposed tariffs would increase US laptop and tablet prices by at least 19%, adding about $120 to the average laptop retail price, the companies said, citing a recent study by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).
