DigiTimes: AMD and Intel will introduce new desktop processors in October

Despite the fact that competition in the processor market has not been as fierce as it is now for a very long time, Intel and AMD do not plan to slow down. The Taiwanese resource DigiTimes, citing motherboard manufacturers, reports that in October this year, both AMD and Intel will release new processors for desktop systems.

Intel is likely to introduce the tenth generation of Core processors in October, which will include several families of chips at once. First, Comet Lake-S processors for the mass market will be introduced, which will replace the Coffee Lake-S Refresh chips. Judging by the latest rumors, they will bring a new processor socket and new system logic. And also among them will be the first 10-core mass-produced Intel processor.

Secondly, Intel may update processors for high-end desktop systems (High End Desktop, HEDT), introducing a new Cascade Lake-X family here. It is very likely that these processors will also require a new chipset, which will require a different processor socket instead of LGA 2066. As you know, Intel likes to change chipsets and sockets every two generations of processors.

In turn, AMD has already introduced all the main processors for the mass market segment. Therefore, it would be logical to assume that in October the Reds will introduce a new generation of Ryzen Threadripper processors, which will be made using the 7nm process technology and use Zen 2 cores. They clearly have to offer more than 16 cores, because that's exactly what the flagship Ryzen 9 3950X has for Socket AM4 platforms, and fewer cores in HEDT processors will no longer make sense.

Be that as it may, Intel will try to release worthy competitors for the AMD Ryzen 3000-series Zen 2 processors released earlier this month. And AMD, in turn, is likely to strengthen at the top of the desktop segment, offering new processors Ryzen Threadripper on Zen 2 cores.
