Distributions fix GRUB2 update issues

The main Linux distributions have formed a corrective package update with the GRUB2 boot loader, problemsthat emerged after the vulnerability was fixed boothole. After installing the first update, some users experienced impossibility downloading their systems. Boot problems have occurred on some systems with BIOS or UEFI in "Legacy" mode, and were caused by regressions that in certain situations lead to a crash during the boot process or incorrect detection of the boot device and incorrect installation of the bootloader.

The issue has been fixed in the following updates:

  • Debian:
    grub2_2.02+dfsg1-20+deb10u2, grub2_2.02~beta3-5+deb9u2

  • Ubuntu: grub-efi-*26.2, grub-efi-*8.17, grub-efi-*3.27 and grub-efi-*1.17.
  • RHEL:
    shim-*el8_2 (RHEL 8) and shim*-15-8.el7 (RHRL 7).

  • CentOS: shim-x64-15-15.el8_2.x86_64.rpm (CeotOS 7) and shim-x64-15-8.el7_8.x86_64.rpm (CentOS 8). Packages are already published on mirrors, but not announced.
  • Fedora has not yet released an update to address the BootHole vulnerability.
  • In SUSE/openSUSE problems in initial update "grub2-2.02-4.53.1" is not fixed.
