The premiere of a feature film based on the post-apocalyptic novel of the same name is scheduled for January 1, 2022. The producers are Evgeny Vladimirovich Nikishov and Valery Valeryevich Fedorovich, who were responsible for such projects as “Chernobyl. Exclusion Zone”, “Gogol” and “Policeman from Rublyovka”. The TV-3 channel, TNT-PREMIER Studios and the Central Partnership film company (part of Gazprom-Media) will be engaged in production, the author himself will also take part in the work.
“Metro 2033 is my first novel, it played a very special role in my life, and despite numerous offers to film it, I have been waiting with this for more than ten years. In Russia, I have not seen producers who are able to transfer this book to the screen, - Mr. Glukhovsky noted, adding that now a suitable team has finally appeared. — Our ambitions coincided — to create a world-class blockbuster and surprise even those who have read the Metro trilogy and know it by heart. And in order not to disappoint them, I am ready to become a creative producer of the picture and help in its creation in word and deed.
In turn, Valery Fedorovich stressed that the film adaptation of Metro 2033 would be the most ambitious and large-scale film ever launched by his holding. The budget for the creation and promotion (including outside of Russia) promises to be a record. Judging by the release date, the creators are confident of success and are not afraid of competition for viewers' wallets with New Year's blockbusters. Nothing has been announced about the cast of the upcoming film.
Metro 2033 is the first part of a trilogy of novels about the life of people in the Moscow subway after a nuclear war. The book became an international bestseller and has been translated into 37 languages, not least thanks to the game adaptation. Let's hope that the film adaptation will be worthy and will not repeat the fate of a similar Hollywood project announced in March 2016 and then sunk into oblivion, which was to be produced by Michael De Luca, who worked on films like The Social Network or 50 shades of grey."
