Before the end of the century, the number of dead Facebook users will exceed the number of living ones

Scientists from the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) conducted a study in which Found outthat by 2070 the number of dead Facebook users may exceed the number of living ones, and by 2100 1,4 billion users of the social network will be dead. At the same time, as stated, the analysis provides for two extreme scenarios.

Before the end of the century, the number of dead Facebook users will exceed the number of living ones

The first assumes that the number of users will remain at the level of 2018. In this case, by the end of the century, the share of deceased users from Asian countries will be 44% of the total. At the same time, almost half of the amount will fall on India and Indonesia. In digital form, this will amount to about 279 million by 2100.

The second scenario is based on the current growth rate of 13% annually. This will lead to the fact that the number of dead users may exceed 4,9 billion people by the end of the century. Most of them will be in the African region, and more precisely, in Nigeria. It accounts for more than 6% of the total number of dead users. Of the Western countries, only the USA will get into the Top 10.

According to the researchers, this will lead to new problems. We are talking about the right to the data of the deceased, about who and how will use them. It is claimed that this will be the largest archive of personal information in the history of the world. Therefore, it is assumed that not only Facebook should have access to this information.

At the same time, the company itself, obviously, is also thinking about it. In 2015, they launched a system of "commemorative" profiles for deceased users. And recently there added new opportunities, including the management of such accounts.
