Android's share will decrease if Huawei smartphones switch to Hongmeng

The analytical company Strategy Analytics has published another forecast for the smartphone market, in which it predicted an increase in the number of devices used worldwide to 4 billion units in 2020. Thus, the global smartphone fleet will increase by 5% compared to 2019.

Android's share will decrease if Huawei smartphones switch to Hongmeng

Android will remain the most common mobile operating system by a wide margin, with iOS taking second place, as now. However, Android's hegemony may be weakened by Huawei's release of its own OS, now known as Hongmeng. First, devices under its control will appear in China, but if the United States again tightens sanctions against the company, Hongmeng will enter the global market. According to experts, this could happen in 2020.

Given the high popularity of products from the Huawei and Honor brands, this state of affairs may lead to a reduction in the share of Android. For reference: only one Honor 8X model has sold 15 million units worldwide since its release in September last year. However, according to calculations by Strategy Analytics, Huawei still did not take the lead in the ranking of the best-selling smartphone models. The Samsung Galaxy S2019+ took first place in terms of sales revenue in the first quarter of 10, surpassing rivals such as Huawei Mate 20 Pro and OPPO R17 in this indicator.
