The share of AMD processors in Steam statistics has grown 2,5 times in two years

The popularity of AMD processors continues to grow with no signs of slowing down. According to the latest data from the gaming service Steam, collected in November 2019 among users of the platform, the share of AMD processors in the used gaming computers has now reached 20,5% - a huge jump considering the situation two years ago.

The share of AMD processors in Steam statistics has grown 2,5 times in two years

Checking previous statistics, it's easy to see that AMD's chip share peaks coincide with the company's release of new generations of Ryzen processors. The number of users of equipment with AMD processors in January 2018 was only 8%, but by June it had skyrocketed to 16%, almost doubling in six months. During this period, second-generation Ryzen processors were released, which undoubtedly contributed to such a sharp increase in the popularity of AMD chips.

After June 2018, this figure continued to rise steadily until July 2019, then increased by almost 2% in November, which, again, can be considered the merit of the third generation of Ryzen processors. With this, AMD broke the 20% mark for the first time, closing the gap on Intel.

At the same time, the use of AMD GPUs still remains within 15%. And the company's most popular graphics cards are still the Radeon RX 580 and 570, and there is no noticeable interest in the new RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT yet: their demand among Steam players is only tenths of a percent.
