DOOM Eternal was rated higher than the previous part, but everything is not so clear

Three days before the official release DOOM Eternal The embargo on the publication of review materials for the hotly anticipated shooter by id Software and Bethesda Softworks has ended.

DOOM Eternal was rated higher than the previous part, but everything is not so clear

At the time of publication, DOOM Eternal received 53 ratings on Metacritic, which are divided among the three main platforms as follows: PC (21 reviews), PS4 (17) and Xbox One (15)

In terms of the average score, the versions of DOOM Eternal for the listed systems also do not differ much: 90% (PC and Xbox One) and 87% (PS4). For comparison: DOOM 2016 at one time reached "only" up to 85% (PC и PS4).

Despite the numerical superiority over its predecessor, DOOM Eternal was not without its shortcomings: reviewers scold the platform sections, jerky pace and (suddenly) not very long story campaign.

However, the next high-profile development of id Software has significantly more advantages: journalists predictably praise the soundtrack, the variety of arsenal and enemies, as well as the id Tech 7 engine on which the game is based.

One of the seven publications that awarded DOOM Eternal the maximum score was the Australian Press Start: story campaign (multiplayer not available before release) of the game "boasts fast-paced and furious battles, an army of ruthless enemies and some truly epic moments."

Blurred ending deprived the shooter of the highest rating on the site DualShockers (90%): "Despite this hard landing, it's hard not to be impressed by everyone else in DOOM Eternal. Despite the successes on the gameplay front, perhaps id Software's greatest achievement is the level of initial polish of the game."

Author 3DNews Ivan Byshonkov gave DOOM Eternal an 80% score and praised the battle dynamics and Doom Slayer's arsenal, but criticized the platforming sections and "ambiguous changes" to the combat system.

The lowest rating currently available for DOOM Eternal was given by an employee GamesRadar - 70%. The journalist especially did not like the "acrobatic" segments and moments when the shooter intentionally slows down the player.
