For Android platform published experimental browser release Firefox Preview 4.3, codenamed Fenix ββas a replacement for Firefox for Android. In the near future the issue will be published in the catalog Google Play (requires Android 5 or later to work).
Firefox Preview uses GeckoView engine built on Firefox Quantum technologies and a set of libraries Mozilla Android Components, which are already used to build browsers Firefox Focus ΠΈ Firefox lite. GeckoView is a variant of the Gecko engine that is packaged as a standalone library that can be updated independently, while Android Components includes libraries with generic components that provide tabs, input completion, search suggestions, and other browser features.
Main changes:
Expanded settings for managing blocking of automatic playback of multimedia content (added the ability to disable blocking when connected via Wi-Fi);
Added a form for selecting a language from the application;
Improved home screen implementation (redesign of collections and reduced branding elements to provide more space for content);
Implemented an option to disable the creation of screenshots in private mode;
Corrections have been made to support installed web applications running in Progressive Web Apps (PWA) mode;
The animation effect during search has been improved and the flickering of icons when selecting an item in the history has been removed;
Problems with full screen mode have been resolved.
