Composite server Wayfire 0.5 available using Wayland

Took place composite server release Wayfire 0.5, which uses Wayland and allows you to create resource-friendly user interfaces with 3D effects in the style of 3D plug-ins for Compiz (switching screens through a 3D cube, spatial window layout, morphing when working with windows, etc.). Wayfire support extension via plugins and provides a flexible system settings.

The project code is written in C++ and spreads under the MIT license. The library is used as the basis wlroots, developed by the developers of the user environment Sway and provides basic functions for organizing the work of a composite manager based on Wayland. Can be used as a panel wf shell or lavalauncher.

In the new version:

  • Support for constantly placing elements on top of other content (always-on-top).
  • Improved animation when running the vswitch plugin responsible for switching between desktops. On devices with touch screens, the ability to change desktops with gestures is implemented.
  • Work has been done to improve the responsiveness of the interface.
  • Added support for the Wayland primary-selection protocol, which is required to implement pasting from the clipboard by pressing the middle mouse button.
  • Added support for the output-power-management Wayland protocol, which allows you to put output devices into power-saving mode.
  • The wayfire-plugins-extra set offers several new plugins:
    annotate to draw lines and shapes on top of the screen,
    background-view to launch applications in the background,
    force-fullscreen to switch to full screen mode,
    mag to increase the contents of areas,
    water to use the ripple effect on the water,
    workspace-names to display desktop names,
    bench, showrepaint to show FPS rendering.
