The release of the music player Fooyin 0.5 has been published, which has been developing since the beginning of this year and is aimed at providing ample opportunities for customizing and adapting the program to your preferences. The user is offered a set of widgets with the implementation of various modes for managing the music collection and playing music. Additional features can be added in the form of plugins. To customize the interface, a special mode for editing the layout of elements on the screen is offered. The project is written in C++ using the Qt library and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. Ready-made packages have been created for Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu (it is also planned to update the package in flatpak format in the near future).
Supports playback of files in FLAC, MP3, MP4, Vorbis, Opus, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, Musepack and Monkey's Audio formats, extracting information about the order and duration of audio tracks from CUE files, gapless playback, import and export of lists playback in M3U/M3U8 formats. The interface provides the ability to filter the contents of the music library by any field, tree view of the collection, editing tags, creating and managing playlists, visualization using spectrograms, navigation at the directory level in the file system with the ability to directly play selected files. For external control of the player, the D-Bus interface MPRIS (Media Player Remote Interfacing Specification) can be used.
The new version adds support for CUE files, the ability to import/export playlists, and an output mode that displays thumbnails of album covers. Support for creating plugins for parsing tags and decoding audio formats has been implemented. In file navigation mode, the last opened directory is remembered.
In future releases, we plan to add the ability to send playback statistics to music services such as Last.fm, provide the ability to normalize volume (ReplayGain), implement an advanced query language for search, and add support for smart playlists that are automatically generated based on user-specified criteria. It is also planned to add features such as downloading album covers and lyrics from external services, converting audio formats, searching by metadata, listening to Internet radio, playing files from archives, creating plugins for audio processing, using different playback queues for different playlists.
