Calla, an audio/video conferencing platform in the form of an RPG game, is now available

Project Calla develops a system for audio and video conferencing that allows multiple participants to speak at the same time. Usually, when conducting online conferences, only one participant is allowed to speak, and simultaneous discussions are problematic. In Calla, to organize natural communication, in which several people can speak at the same time, it is proposed to use navigation in the form of an RPG game. The project is written in JavaScript, uses the developments of the free platform Jitsi meet ΠΈ spreads under the MIT license.

The highlight of the proposed approach is that the volume and direction of the sound are set depending on the position and distance of the participants relative to each other. Turning left and right changes the position of the stereo sound source, making it easier to separate voices and make communication more natural. Chat participants move around the virtual playing field and can gather there in groups. For a private conversation, several participants can move away from the main group, and to join the discussion, it is enough to get closer to the crowd on the playing field.
Flexible customization options are provided, allowing you to define your own virtual maps and customize the interface design to suit your needs.

Recall that Jitsi meet is a JavaScript application that uses WebRTC and is able to work with servers based on Jitsi videobridge (gateway for broadcasting video streams to video conference participants). Jitsi Meet supports features such as sharing desktop or individual windows, automatic switching to the active speaker's video, collaborative document editing in Etherpad, presentation sharing, conference streaming on YouTube, audio conferencing mode, the ability to connect participants through the Jigasi phone gateway, password protection , the "can talk while pressing the button" mode, sending invitations to connect to the conference in the form of a URL, the ability to exchange messages in a text chat. All transmitted data streams between the client and the server are encrypted (it is assumed that the server operates at its own capacity).
