Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.7 Beta available

On June 5, 2019, the beta version of the RHEL 7.7 distribution became available

This is the last version of branch 7 when new features will be available, but thanks to the 10-year support period, RHEL 7x users will receive updates and support for new hardware until 2024, but no new features.

  • The biggest updates are support for the latest enterprise hardware and fixes for newly discovered vulnerabilities ZombieLoad. Unfortunately, RHEL can't do anything about the underlying Intel chip issues. This means your processors will run slower on many jobs.
  • Major network stack performance improvements. You can offload virtual switch operations to the network card (NIC) hardware. This means that if you use Virtual Switching and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), you will see better network performance on cloud and container platforms such as Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat OpenShift.
  • RHEL 7.7 beta users will also have access to a new product from Red Hat: Red Hat Insights. It uses a software-as-a-service (SaaS) predictive analytics approach to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential problems in systems before they can cause problems.
  • Support Red Hat Image Builder. Just made available in RHEL 8, this feature allows you to easily create custom RHEL system images for cloud and virtualization platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), VMware vSphere, and OpenStack.
