LXQt 1.2 user environment available

The release of the user environment LXQt 1.2 (Qt Lightweight Desktop Environment), developed by the joint team of developers of the LXDE and Razor-qt projects, is available. The LXQt interface continues to follow the ideas of the classic desktop organization, bringing a modern look and feel to enhance the user experience. LXQt is positioned as a lightweight, modular, fast and convenient continuation of the development of the Razor-qt and LXDE desktops, incorporating the best features of both shells. The code is hosted on GitHub and is licensed under GPL 2.0+ and LGPL 2.1+. Ready builds are expected for Ubuntu (LXQt is offered by default in Lubuntu), Arch Linux, Fedora, openSUSE, Mageia, FreeBSD, ROSA, and ALT Linux.

  • The file manager (PCManFM-Qt) implements a history of search operations (Preferences β†’ Advanced β†’ Search) and offers separate lists for searching by name and by content. The interface for selecting files in the detailed list display mode has been simplified (to select, just move the pointer in the area of columns with metadata). To cancel the selection of elements, a new key combination Ctrl + D is proposed, which works in the file manager and the file open dialog.

  • Adjusted the correct selection of the LXQt Runner position for various window managers.
  • Added a quick action to the panel context menu to reload desktop items.
  • A submenu with sorting options has been added to the image viewer.
  • Fixed issues with taking screenshots of individual windows on systems with multiple screens.
  • Provided the ability to set indents on the desktop, for example, to reserve space for auto-hide panels.
  • The power indicator provides a visualization of the remaining charge of the battery (when there is no dynamics of discharging and charging).
  • Like past releases, LXQt 1.2 continues to be based on the Qt 5.15 branch, for which official updates are released only under a commercial license, while unofficial free updates are generated by the KDE project. Porting to Qt 6 is not yet complete and requires stabilization of the KDE Frameworks 6 libraries.
