Radeon Driver 19.7.1: Some New Technologies and RX 5700 Support

Toward the launch of the latest consumer graphics cards Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700XT AMD also introduced the Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.7.1 driver, which includes, first of all, support for new GPUs. However, in addition to this, the first July driver brings a lot of other innovations.

For example, the driver adds a new intelligent image sharpening feature called Radeon Image Sharpening. It combines sharpness correction with adaptive contrast adjustment and GPU-assisted scaling to deliver the sharpest possible image with virtually no performance degradation. The technology can be activated in DirectX 9, DirectX 12 and Vulkan games on AMD Radeon RX 5700 series graphics.

The second new feature, AMD Radeon Anti-Lag, improves I/O response times. According to the manufacturer, the technology is available in the Radeon settings and allows you to reduce delays in DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 by up to 31%. In active games, increasing the speed of response to button presses can sometimes be decisive for victory. In addition, AMD Radeon RX 5700 graphics cards now have the ability to automatically set the display to low latency (gaming) mode when TVs are connected via HDMI 2.1.

In addition, the AMD Link app now supports auto-discovery and one-click connection, as well as connecting to Apple TV and Android TV through a new simplified TV interface. AMD Radeon Chill now has the ability to set framerate caps based on the refresh rate of a particular monitor, sometimes delivering up to 2,5x more power savings than before. The AMD Radeon WattMan utility also received several innovations and improvements. But in general, the Radeon Settings interface has the ability to save and load multiple settings profiles for different needs.

AMD engineers have also fixed a number of issues:

  • on some systems with Ryzen APUs, the driver was not completely removed when using the quick uninstall option.
  • The Performance Metrics Overlay intermittently displayed incorrect colors in games.
  • Radeon Overlay did not work in Doom (2016).
  • Radeon Overlay would not display or run in full screen mode under Windows 7.
  • AMD libraries were hanging when using Easy Anti-Cheat - a clean install of Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.7.1 may be required to resolve the issue.

The company continues to work on fixing a number of known issues:

  • When Radeon Image Sharpening is enabled, the Radeon Overlay may flicker in DirectX 9 or Vulkan mode.
  • Unable to stream Radeon ReLive and upload videos and other content to Facebook.
  • Radeon ReLive recording audio is corrupted or distorted when desktop recording is enabled.
  • Textures in Star Wars Battlefront II look pixelated or blurry in DirectX 11 mode.
  • Issues connecting discrete GPU on ASUS TUF Gaming FX505 laptop when idle;
  • Minor stutters in Fortnite during the first few minutes of gameplay on the Radeon RX 5700 GPU.
  • Flickering on the Valve Index headset when launching SteamVR on the Radeon RX 5700 GPU;
  • black screen during uninstallation of Radeon RX 5700 GPU driver under Windows 7, exit - uninstall in safe mode;
  • Radeon ReLive creates empty clips on Radeon RX 5700 GPU under Windows 7;
  • League of Legends does not run on Radeon RX 5700 GPU under Windows 7;
  • Radeon Settings do not appear in the desktop context menu when right-clicking under Windows 7.
  • Radeon WattMan features are not currently available in the AMD Link app on Radeon VII and Radeon RX 5700.
  • The manual connection method for AMD Link intermittently does not work with Android TV.
  • when playing a video from the ReLive gallery under Windows 7, the connection with AMD Link TV is interrupted;

Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.7.1 can be downloaded on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 or Windows 10 as with AMD official site, or from the Radeon Settings menu. It is dated July 7 and is intended for video cards and integrated graphics of the Radeon HD 7000 family and above.
