Radeon Driver 19.9.2 Brings Borderlands 3 and Image Sharpening Support to Older Graphics Cards

To coincide with the launch of Borderlands 3 from Gearbox Software, AMD has unveiled the second September driver, Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.9.2. As the manufacturer promises, by installing this driver, users will receive a performance increase on the Radeon RX 5700 graphics card in Borderlands 3 by 16% compared to Radeon 19.9.1 (tests were conducted in DirectX 12 mode at maximum quality settings and at 1080p resolution).

The second innovation is the addition of support previously advertised new Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS) technology on Radeon RX 590, Radeon RX 580, Radeon RX 570, Radeon RX 480 and Radeon RX 470 graphics cards in DirectX 12 and Vulkan modes. Previously, this feature was only available on Radeon RX 5700 family accelerators with RDNA architecture. RIS allows you to lower the rendering resolution while maintaining or even increasing the clarity of the image. RIS combines sharpening with adaptive contrast and GPU-assisted scaling to produce sharper images with virtually no performance degradation. RIS does not touch high-contrast edges, but increases sharpness on low-contrast objects and textures.

AMD also fixed a number of issues:

  • V-sync is limited to 30fps on some displays with 75Hz refresh rate when enabled;
  • instability of some systems when viewing video content in a web browser on Radeon RX 5700 accelerators;
  • Audio for clips captured by Radeon ReLive may be corrupted or distorted if desktop recording is enabled.
  • Radeon settings incorrectly display clock speeds on some Radeon RX 5700 accelerators;
  • Enabling advanced sync may cause Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products to crash in game, application, or system.

Work continues on fixing existing issues:

  • texturing artifacts in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice;
  • system instability when switching HDR in games while Radeon ReLive is running;
  • Discord freezing on Radeon RX 5700 graphics cards during hardware acceleration;
  • display artifacts on 75Hz displays with Radeon RX 5700 graphics cards;
  • Stuttering in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on some configurations
  • frames may drop when using the AMF codec in Open Broadcasting Software;
  • HDMI overscan and underscan options are missing from Radeon settings on AMD Radeon VII systems when the primary display frequency is set to 60Hz.
  • stuttering when running Radeon FreeSync on 240Hz screens with Radeon RX 5700 graphics;
  • Radeon performance metrics may report incorrect VRAM usage.
  • AMD Radeon VII may experience increased memory clock rates when idle or on desktop.

Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.9.12 can be downloaded on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 or Windows 10 as with AMD official site, or from the Radeon Settings menu. It is dated September 12 and is intended for video cards and integrated graphics of the Radeon HD 7000 family and higher.
