Radeon Driver 20.3.1 Brings Half-Life: Alyx and Vulkan Support to Ghost Recon Breakpoint

AMD has released its first March Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.3.1 driver, a key feature of which is improved support for Vulkan and new games. So, AMD specialists added support for the high-budget shooter Half-Life: Alyx for virtual reality and the low-level open API Vulkan in Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

The company also promises a slight increase in productivity in Doom Eternal: At Ultra Nightmare settings at 1920Γ—1080, the Radeon RX 5700XT accelerator is up to 5% faster than the previous 20.2.2 driver. In addition to gaming improvements, AMD has added support for new extensions in the Vulkan graphics API: VK_EXT_post_depth_coverage, VK_KHR_shader_non_semantic_info, VK_EXT_texel_buffer_alignment, VK_EXT_pipeline_creation_cache_control.

The company also promises to fix a lot of problems that could be observed in some cases:

  • Videos shot with Radeon ReLive experience dropped frames or choppy audio.
  • Games stuttered when using Instant Replay or third-party apps that were broadcasting or capturing the screen.
  • hotkeys were not applied to scenes in the ReLive editor when it had its own name;
  • Webcam elements were not displayed on the screen if a custom location was set during ReLive recording.
  • AMD A-series and E-series APUs will display an older user interface in Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition settings;
  • zero fan speed was not reset or appeared when advanced fan settings were disabled in Performance Tuning;
  • Radeon Software may automatically close when starting or stopping a stream.
  • Desktop cursor intermittently remained visible after switching Radeon Software's blend mode.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Displayed a blank screen when launched using the Vulkan API;
  • Radeon Software crashed when VRAM reached 8GB or more with HBCC enabled for Radeon RX Vega series graphics products.
  • Doom 2016 periodically hung or slowed down;
  • Space Engineers hangs when Grass Density is enabled.
  • Exiting SteamVR with multi-display system configurations would result in a system hang or black screen.
  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne performance was slower than expected in parts of the game on Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products.
  • Video playback resulted in corrupted interlaced content in movies and TVs when using Ryzen 3000 chips and Radeon graphics.
  • PassMark caused application freezes on Ryzen chips and Radeon graphics.
  • On Radeon RX Vega and older graphics cards and APUs, enabling integer display scaling resulted in lower frame rates.
  • integer scaling was not shown as available in Radeon Software on GCN graphics cards.
  • The standard keyboard shortcuts for recording and creating a screenshot using Radon ReLive have been changed: recording is now called by default with the combination "Ctrl + Shift + E", screenshot - "Ctrl + Shift + I".

Work continues on fixing other identified issues on some configurations:

  • extended sync causes a black screen;
  • Performance metrics overlaid and Radeon WattMan incorrectly reports higher than expected idle clock speeds of the Radeon RX 5700.
  • Radeon Software opens with an incorrect window size or does not save the previous state;
  • changing the HDMI Scaling slider may cause the frequency to be locked at 30 fps;
  • some games intermittently stutter on Radeon RX 5000 series accelerators;
  • artifacts on the desktop or in the game occur intermittently when HDR is running;
  • Radeon RX Vega series graphics cause a system crash or TDR when playing with Instant Replay enabled.
  • Edge browser crashes or freezes when playing Netflix.
  • some users may still experience black screen or system freeze issues after extended periods of gameplay;
  • Direct ML Media Filters are not currently available in the Radeon Software Media Gallery for video or images.

Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.3.1 driver can be downloaded on Windows 64 or Windows 7 10-bit versions from both AMD official site, or from the Radeon Settings menu. It is dated March 19, designed for video cards and integrated graphics of the Radeon HD 7000 family and above.
