The results of the annual elections of the leader of the Debian project have been summed up. 455 developers took part in the voting, which is 44% of all participants with the right to vote (last year turnout was 33%, the year before 37%). This year, two candidates for the post of leader took part in the elections. The victory was won by Jonathan Carter, who was re-elected for a second term.
Jonathan has been maintaining more than 2016 packages in Debian since 60, is involved in improving the quality of live images in the debian-live team, and is one of the developers of AIMS Desktop, a build of Debian used by a number of South African academic and educational institutions.
The second candidate for the lead was Sruthi Chandran from India, who strives for diversity in the community, is a member of the Outreach Team and maintains about 200 packages related to Ruby, JavaScript, GoLang and fonts, including the maintainer of gitlab, gitaly and rails.
