Remote sensing satellite "Obzor-R" will go into orbit in 2021

Sources in the rocket and space industry, according to the RIA Novosti online publication, spoke about the work within the framework of the Obzor-R project.

Remote sensing satellite "Obzor-R" will go into orbit in 2021

We are talking about the launch of new satellites for remote sensing of the Earth (ERS). The main instrument of the devices will be the Kasatka-R space radar with a synthetic aperture. It will allow around the clock and regardless of weather conditions to conduct radar surveys of the surface of our planet in the X-band.

It is reported that the Samara Rocket and Space Center (RCC) "Progress" will receive a radar for the first satellite "Obzor-R" at the end of this year. This device is planned to be prepared for shipment to the cosmodrome at the end of 2020. The launch of the satellite is tentatively scheduled for 2021.

The timing of the launch of the second Obzor-R satellite can be determined no earlier than the flight tests of the first apparatus are completed. In other words, it will happen after 2021. The launch of the Obzor-R No. 2 satellite will take place no earlier than 2023.

The creation of new devices is carried out within the framework of the project to form a new Russian satellite constellation for radar remote sensing of the Earth. The use of the Obzor-R satellites with the Kasatka-R radar will expand the modern possibilities for observing the surface of the planet.
