The new policy is already in effect for American eBay users.
It said the trading platform's new policy was outlined in a notice sent to sellers a few days ago. The ban on the sale of these types of goods applies to both new advertisements and existing ones. eBay says it will immediately remove listings for medical masks, disinfectant gels and wipes. In addition, sellers are prohibited from mentioning coronavirus and some related words, such as βCOVID-19β, βSARS-CoV-2β, etc., in product descriptions.
The message notes that eBay will continue to monitor the situation, promptly removing any advertisements for the sale of goods (except books) that are in one way or another related to the coronavirus. This position is due to the fact that unreasonable increases in prices for goods violate US laws and current eBay rules.
Prices for coronavirus-related health and hygiene products have risen sharply since late January. This is especially true for large online platforms such as Amazon and eBay. According to available data, eBay administration has already removed more than 20 products related to coronavirus and sold at inflated prices.
