Edward Snowden gave an interview in which he shared his opinion about instant messengers

Edward Snowden, a former NSA employee hiding from American intelligence agencies in Russia, gave interview French radio station France Inter. Among other topics discussed, of particular interest is the question of whether it is reckless and risky to use Whatsapp and Telegram, citing the fact that the French Prime Minister communicates with his ministers through Whatsapp, and the President with his subordinates through Telegram.

In his response, Snowden said that using these programs is better than SMS or phone calls due to the applications' use of encryption; at the same time, if you are a prime minister, using these funds is very risky. If anyone in government is using WhatsApp, it's a mistake: Facebook owns the app and is gradually removing security features. They promise that they will not listen to conversations because they are encrypted. But they will try to do this, justifying themselves on grounds of national security. Instead of these apps, Snowden recommended Signal Messenger or Wire as safer alternatives that have not been seen in connection with intelligence agencies.
