Mossmouth and BlitWorks have announced that action-platformer Spelunky 2 will not have online features when it launches on Steam. They will appear later and immediately with cross-platform multiplayer between the PC and PlayStation 4 versions.
In a statement published on Steam, the developer said that Spelunky 2 on PlayStation 4 (it was released on the console on September 15) was received very well -
βIn terms of release date, we listened to community feedback and decided to prioritize an earlier release so Steam players can enjoy the game as soon as possible. βUnfortunately, this means that we will not be able to launch an online multiplayer game, and we will temporarily remove the βCo-op (Online)β label from the store so as not to mislead people,β the developer wrote.
On the other hand, developers will have time to improve network functions and implement cross-platform multiplayer between Steam and PlayStation 4. According to the studios, the wait will not be too long - a few weeks at most. After that, they will continue to work on Spelunky 2 to add PvP modes and other requested features.
Spelunky 2 will be released on PC on September 29th. At first, it will be sold on Steam with a 10 percent discount.
