Tesla electric car can now change lanes on its own

Tesla is one step closer to making a truly self-driving car by adding a mode to its autonomous driving system that allows the car to decide when it needs to change lanes.

Tesla electric car can now change lanes on its own

Whereas the Autopilot system previously required driver confirmation before performing a lane change maneuver, this is no longer required after a new software update is installed. If the driver specifies in the settings menu that confirmation is not required to change lanes, the car will by default perform a maneuver on its own if necessary.

This feature has already been tested by the company. It was also tested by participants in the Early Access Program. In total, more than half a million miles (about 805 km) were covered by electric vehicles during tests of the reliability of the autopilot function.

The feature has already been accessed by Tesla customers in the US. In the future, it is expected to be introduced in other markets after verification and approval by the relevant regulatory authorities.
